Hey y’all! I’m back with a book AND a recipe review! A 2-for-1 special! 😛
*I received a copy by the author in exchange for my honest opinion. Thank you!*

Art and Soul is a contemporary romance with 397 pages. It is available in print and ebook here, it’s also free on Kindle Unlimited.

Blurb:

There’s no problem Becky Watson can’t fix. Except her own love life…
Struggling single mother Becky Watson longs to revive her career as a life-fixer, working
miracles to solve her clients’ problems, no matter how big or small. Since the birth of her
two-year-old son she has been stuck preventing wedding fiascos for the richest and rudest
residents of the Comptons, a charming, leafy area of southern England known for its artistic
heritage.
So when semi-reclusive local artist Charlie Handren reluctantly hires Becky to fix his six-
year creative slump, she’s delighted to set him up with a come-back exhibition and Rachel
Stone, the woman of his dreams.
Though they get off to a rocky start, Becky and Charlie soon become close. But as the
beautiful Rachel becomes Charlie’s muse, Becky is forced to wonder: will giving Charlie
everything he wants mean giving up her own happily ever after?
A heart-warming, uplifting romance served with a generous slice of cake.

Review:

Art and Soul is Claire Huston’s debut novel. She did a fantastic job with the writing, the details, and the flow of the story. I would consider this read a slow burn, but a light-hearted kind. I was hooked from page one and once I started, I struggled to put it down. The whole “one more chapter” lie played a part in reading this! I really enjoyed the point of view from both characters. I liked reading what each one thought or felt. The balance from humorous to seriousness was spot on, an absolute rom-com. This was a fun, fast paced, and creative read. The only thing I will give you a heads up on is this: have a slice of cake with you while reading!! 🙂

I decided try out one of the recipes from Claire’s website. There is a page that has the recipes for the cakes that are mentioned in the book. They can be found here. The recipe I used was the Halloween Brownie Cupcakes. I did need to figure out the conversions of some of the ingredients, but that’s what google is for! The cupcakes came out so good and the smell was so delightful.

They were super soft and wonderfully delicious. My kids gave them 2 thumbs up and devoured them. They are now wanting to try other recipes from Claire’s website.

All in all, I loved the book and the cupcakes. Claire Huston did a fantastic job with her debut novel! Way to go, Claire!!

  1. Thank you for this lovely review! And I’m extra-delighted that your cupcakes turned out so well (they look fantastic) and your children loved them. My youngest has just seen the pictures and I think I’ll have to make cake this afternoon for him 🙂 x
